About The Trust
The Alexandra Sales Trust, a trust set up to create a legacy in memory of Alexandra Sales who on the 2nd April 2013 was diagnosed with Metastatic Rhabdomysarcoma, a rare, rapidly spreading soft tissue cancer. Alexandra passed away on the 16th September 2014 aged just 17.
The ethos of our Trust is to support children and young people aged 1 to 24 who have been diagnosed with Cancer. The support given to Alexandra during her illness by the Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey was very caring and in memory of Alexandra, we the Trust and her many friends are committed to raising as much money as possible to help other children in similar circumstances.
Alexandra was able to benefit from a number of small charities. She was able to have a real hair wig made, so, in her words, she would ‘feel and look normal’ for her school prom. Alexandra was also lucky enough to be awarded a MAC laptop from a Charity. She was so proud of this gift as she had every intention, when she recovered, of studying photography as an A level. These donations made her happy and took her mind away from the daily trauma of her illness.
This is the aim of our Trust, to raise ‘Smile Money’. We want to give something to young people being treated for cancer and going through what Alexandra endured. Maybe it will be another Mac Laptop or a weekend away for the family. We want to gift a memory.
The Trust will distribute the money raised through the charity CLIC Sargent at the Royal Marsden Hospital Surrey. CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity that specialise in the non-clinical needs of children and their families.
These include Emotional, Educational, Social, Practical and Financial needs. CLIC Sargent will recommend to us individual benefactors, that may not be fortunate enough to have their own finances available to help their children through this traumatic stage of their young lives.
We, the Trust, will be advised by CLIC Sargent before any monies are allocated. This will ensure that the funds the Trust raise are policed properly before being distributed and that the request has come from a bona fide source.
All the Trustees of The Alexandra Sales Trust are volunteers, paying any expenses incurred with no charge being made for administration costs, therefore any monies received by the Trust are used solely to fulfil the ethos of the Charity.
